Since the events of September 11, 2001 the mailroom has become the latest front-line in the terrorism attacks.

We think we speak for all of us in the mailing industry, when we realize how little this subject has been thought about in the past. However, we probably agree that we need to work together to provide a safe work environment into the future as well as move the mail efficiently.

Since the anthrax outbreaks we all look at incoming mail differently. MES has been active in sales and maintenance of incoming and out-going mail systems since 1973. We highly recommend the purchase of a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuum cleaner to suck up the dust accumulated in the openers. Do not use a brush or compressed air to clean your machines. Our service technician are using an N95 dust mask and gloves when working on envelope openers.

We think that this situation is comparable to the Universal Precautions instituted by the medical profession at the start of the AIDS outbreak. We can work with these precautions and move the mail as effectively as in the past.
